The conjuring 2

The conjuring 2 is a supernatural movie which consists of typical conventions used frequently in horror movies. The mis en scene is a life example of one of these conventions; lighting. The lighting throughout the trailer remains dark and even when there was a short cut at the beginning outside, it was gloomy and darkness connotes evilness. The trailer further consists of objects such as the cross which subverts the whole idea of holiness and protection from our father. The use of the crucifix makes this sub genre recognisable as the lord is a spirit in which millions of people believe will protect from all bad and evilness. The fact that in this movie despite being surrounded by these crucifixes there is still a supernatural being that continues to torture the family. The use of children being attacked and possessed is also another convention used to subvert the good ideas such as innocence. This links in with my movie "home sweet home" as the female trapped in her home with a supernatural being that messes with her not only physically but mentally as she becomes crazy further on into the movie. The use of the bible is another method to include Christianity and its good spirits. The sounds used throughout the trailer were either screams or very eerie music which is a way to build adrenaline in the audience. Sudden loud noises are further a way to startle us.

A haunted house:
A haunted house is also a movie based in a home and its sub genre is supernatural. Although the movie is a horror/comedy, it shares a few of the same conventions that your typical horror movie consists of such as dark lighting and loud dramatic sounds. The intro of the movie begins with a long sound building up to a sudden noise. Where normally you would have a loud noise at the end of this extended sound, the sound of a fart played hence why this is a horror comedy and doesn't completely share the same conventions. The movie also includes a priest who is there in attempt to get rid of the supernatural being which again connotes the ideas of Christianity being there to protect all from evilness. There's also graffiti on the wall of satan's name. Although not a convention, the name is written in blood which connotes violence, war and pain which definitely show in most horror movies. Another convention in supernatural movies is a character being possessed by the antagonist which although isn't something that will happen in my movie, is an idea I could bare in mind. Furthermore, an idea that I may take from this trailer is a character being dragged by the antagonist as it showed how dominant and powerful a supernatural being can be.

Insidious:

Insidious is another supernatural movie which consistently has dark lighting connoting evilness. The intro starts with a continuous sound of ticking, a short cut of the sound of a baby/ young child laughing and the sounds of floor boards creaking which only builds adrenaline in the audience. The whirring sound then becomes distorted which creates a sense of mysteriousness however the ticking noise continues throughout with even louder sounds of creaking before we her a loud sound. This loud sound then startles the audience. The creaking is not only from the floorboards but from the rocking horse for the child. We then find out that the child is possessed and get a flash of the evil looking child at the end zooming closer to us quickly. This creates adrenaline in the audience all whilst subverting the idea of children being innocent.
